NMS has organized a training course for maritime cadets (CADET), with the presence of the captain and experienced officers.

+) Equip knowledge about the structure, technical features of ships, and basic understanding of voyage operations at sea, boundaries, and the use of equipment in the ship’s bridge, to support learning and assist the Officer of the Watch (OOW).

+) Develop habits for work and life on board ships and at sea, ensuring physical fitness for seafaring.
+) Enhance the ability and skills of crew members to react and handle unexpected incidents that impact human safety and vessel security.

+) Additionally, train CADETs in the skills of deploying collective life-saving appliances and lifeboats, handling emergency situations at sea, in accordance with the requirements of the STCW78 Convention, as amended in 2010. To meet minimum standards for skills related to collective life-saving appliances and lifeboats (excluding high-speed lifeboats), CADETs must be proficient in using life-saving equipment and performing tasks on collective life-saving appliances or lifeboats during deployment and after deployment. They should also be capable of operating the machinery on collective life-saving appliances, managing victims, and providing medical care. CADETs need to know how to use positioning devices, including communication and signaling equipment, and perform necessary actions to sustain the lives of victims.

Throughout the training process, under the guidance and evaluation of CAPT NGUYỄN THÀNH LONG, a former Captain with 10 years of experience serving the fleet managed by UMMS, the CADETs demonstrated professionalism and a vibrant learning spirit. Numerous questions were raised and answered in detail.
We hope that in the future, CADETs will successfully fulfill their duties on modern ocean-crossing vessels, putting VIETNAM prominently on the world’s maritime map.
